Jeni flew to Albuquerque and then they skirted down to see us last spring. We hiked up Dog Canyon.
After holding these birds in the Brownsville Zoo, Charlie had good cause to be concerned about my bringing home a want-to-be talking parrot. We accidentally found some superior birds leaving Lajitas but knew we would be in Alaska for 2 months. It is a ripe time now for such an acquisition because after our foray in Hawaii over Thanksgiving it looks like Daddy is not going to be content visiting an assisted living facility.
Brownsville:
Another ho-hum fishing trip out of Brownsville. No fish for us and no fish for anyone on the boat. A stop by Lajitas, north end of Big Bend National Park, on the way home from Brownsville. It was neat and I would like to return to take my grandkids and Keri fossil hunting.
Lajitas Golf Course was surrounded by fossils.
In the old days we could of traded with the Mexicans at this remote place, but now the boundary restrictions are great and they leave wares about with little jars for money. I have a rock or two and one of these walking staffs hung on my wall.
Tommie and Juanita celebrated birthdays with a bridge party.
My PEO group wore hats from another era at the PEO convention in Ruidoso.
Lisa celebrated a birthday. Charlie always beams when she is around. Special times!
We worked hours, days and weeks, trying to put a new face on the cabin. We repainted the kitchen cabinets, laid new flooring, painted bathrooms and did our best to improve this little special Durrett place.
Oh! most wonderful is having my little grandchildren come for golf camp. They are growing so fast. Kali is playing big girl competitive soccer, Aubrey is big in Girl Scouts and doing so well with Miss Jan, and we had to buy extra books in Hawaii because they polished off the ones they brought. It excites me so.
These are Charlie's brothers celebrating a little time together before we left for Alaska.

Here is my special little friend, Juanita, who is just a dear and I appreciate so much. She visited Daddy many times while we were in Hawaii.

If you didn't get it before, notice how these two pictures have the same head. Do you suppose I was up to something here. It was the biggest hoax I played all year. Just be sure the picture of me with the big king salmon fish is absolutely real, but, you are right, a little ugly (fish and girl).

We saw Mt. McKinley several times. Natives call it Denali which is so much more appropro.
It was cool watching the locals gather here for a fishing tourney for sockeye. It really gave us a good feel.

I love the highlights. Looks like you had one of the best years ever. And here is a wish and prayer that 2009 is even more superb!
