Seward and Whittier

This is Miller's Landing. You can't see the mountains encircling this town, but they are fantastic. The Silver Fishing Derby was on and hundreds of fisherman were camped out here but also lots of kayakers. It was an experience. It was not raining when we pitched and put away camp. That was good!

I was doing my part to push the EXIT GLACIER back along with global warming.

WE visited the Life Center in Seward. It was a rip-off but they did have a 10 foot squid, that came a shore out near Unalaska, in alcohol, that was intriguing.Now, what is this bird, girls?

This is the tunnel recently opened that goes into Whittier: during WWII the US developed a base here under the clouds to prevent the Japanese from taking over Alaska, but until this 2 1/2 mile tunnel opened several years ago they had this mountain between them and the rest of Alaska. It is single lane, and on the hour you go out, and on the half hour you go in.
Most of the 180 inhabitants lived in one large building until the tunnel opened. It had tunnels to the schools etc. Charlie and I disagree on to if it was this building or the one that is an asbestos ruin.
